More Than Seasonal

What if we didn’t pack up the seasonal Christmas cheer with the ornaments, lights, and extension cords? What if the hopes, promises, and good tidings of the season did not get boxed? Just imagine, Christmas Cheer all year long, no fruitcake required!

Bill: Most of us like to believe we’re on the Nice List. We hold doors, say thank you (well, most of the time), and occasionally let someone merge in front of us in traffic without dramatic sighs or snarky gestures (after all, traffic lights are red and green.)

Sheri: December does usually seem to be filled with a little more goodwill than the other months. Smiles are easier. Patience stretches a little farther. Even the grumpiest among us can sometimes be found humming a carol  (well, the car windows were rolled up, but I just know that’s what he was doing!)

Christmas season reminds us of who we can be at our best. We encourage more, listen sincerely, and forgive faster. We don’t vow to become superheroes; we just aim to be slightly better versions of ourselves. That’s a plan worth extending through January, March – well, all year long!

This doesn’t mean nonstop jingling or wearing ugly sweaters in July (though we won’t judge). It means carrying the feeling forward. Gratitude without a reminder. Hope that doesn’t wait for a calendar cue. It’s the everyday magic of choosing goodwill when no one’s watching.

Imagine your Naughty and Nice List getting updated daily with small wins. You chose patience over impatience. You offer inspiration instead of critique. You laugh more and complain less. That’s North Pole-level progress right there.

The good news? You don’t need permission to live this way year-round. Christmas season doesn’t own all the kindness, joy, and second chances - it just does a great job of showcasing them. So maybe the real gift of the season is we choose to let it show.

Here’s to Christmas Cheer year-round. Let’s all keep the lights on a little longer, inside, and out.
