“Favorite memories are like flowers in a garden.”
Memories enhance our emotional well-being, provide positive internal feedback, reduce stress…and make us feel good! Even better, memories can be called upon whenever we need them!
Sheri: It’s even better when you find a way to enhance some good memories, and I did just that this month. I was talking with Jenn Lovell of “Lil’ Piece Gift Shop”, who creates personalized hand-crafted gifts.
I asked Jenn for ideas on what I might do with my Mom’s jewelry I had inherited. I knew I wouldn’t be wearing it, and I certainly didn’t want to give it away, but Mom’s jewelry just sat in my jewelry box, hardly noticed.
Jenn suggested creating a jewelry picture for me. She showed me a few examples others have done by taking pieces of jewelry and crafting them into a design of their choice. Since my Mom loved her jewelry and was an avid gardener, I decided flowers made from jewelry seemed like the right place to start.
I gathered up Mom’s jewelry and then decided to also include some of my jewelry as well. The result? This fantastic 10” x “16 creation you see above is a virtual jewelry garden! The garden’s “ground” at the bottom is made from Mom’s cultured pearl necklace she received when she married my Dad. The clouds at the top of the garden are made from Mom’s Austrian crystal necklace that she purchased on her only trip to Europe. All the stems and flowers are made from rings, bracelets, earrings and pins that both my Mom and I acquired and loved over the years.
This treasured picture hangs above my nightstand, right where I can appreciate it and smile with the fond memories of my Mom every day. Well done, Jenn!
