Keep It in the Fairway

There you are on the tee box, shoulders squared, dreams high. You’ve got a plan. You’ve watched the pros on The Masters make it look poetic. You draw back, aim and swing with confidence. Then suddenly, instead of keeping it in the fairway, you’re deep in the rough contemplating life’s choices with a squirrel as your only witness.
Sound familiar?
Keeping it in the fairway is good golf strategy, and good life strategy. The fairway is that clear stretch between where you are and where you want to be. It’s not flashy like the clubhouse and it’s not dramatic like the water hazard. It’s steady. Manageable. Focused. A happy place.
Goals work the same way.
You line up your intentions like health, kindness, purpose. Or finishing that project you started during the last solar eclipse. You take a swing. But life has bunkers. Distractions. News alerts. Snack cabinets. Before you know it, you’re in tall grass wondering how you drifted so far from your aim.
In golf, you don’t throw your clubs and announce retirement (well, ideally). You adjust your stance. Pick a smarter club and aim back toward the fairway. One good shot at a time.
We’ve found that keeping it in the fairway means asking simple questions:
· Is this choice moving me toward my goal?
· Is this conversation helpful or just heat without light?
· Is this habit building strength—or finding sand traps?
Sheri: I have never played golf but my experience hanging out with others who do is that it’s a lovely walk, interrupted by moments of humble reflection, and occasional lame golf jokes spiced with colorful expletives
Bill: You don’t need a hole-in-one every day. You just need steady swings in the right direction. The fairway isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment and adjusting your “towards”.
So today, take a breath. Line up your priorities. Keep your eye on the ball. Swing with intention. And if you land in the rough, smile at the squirrel and aim back toward what matters.
Life doesn’t demand a championship season. It just asks that we keep it in the fairway — adjusting, realigning, and swinging toward what matters.

Positive Reflections...
“The sun himself is weak when he first rises, and gathers strength and courage as the day gets on.” — Charles Dickens
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” — Confucius
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”— Confucius

Music Corner....
Golf has rhythm. So does a well-lived life. A backswing, a pause, a follow-through.
These songs—from the 1960s to today—remind us that progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about direction. Steady steps. One intentional swing at a time.
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (1967)...Because sometimes the “rough” feels steep. This classic is pure determination — no bunker too deep, no fairway too long.
"The Climb" – Miley Cyrus (2009)...A reminder that it’s not about a single perfect shot. It’s about resilience, recalibration, and staying in the game.
"On Top of the World" – Imagine Dragons (2012) ...That feeling when you’ve adjusted your stance, trusted your swing, and watched the ball land right where you aimed.
