A golf ball on the putting green has a pretty simple assignment: get into the hole.

The funny thing is it rarely takes a perfect path to get there.

A putt starts out looking straight enough, then the green has other ideas. There's a little slope you didn't notice. A patch of grass that grabs the ball. A bump that sends it wandering a few inches off course. Yet if the ball has enough momentum, it keeps rolling anyway.

Life reminds us of that sometimes.

Most of us have a pretty good idea where we'd like to go. Maybe it's a dream we've carried for years. Maybe it's a new goal. Maybe it's simply becoming a better version of ourselves.

The challenge usually isn't choosing the destination. The challenge is what happens when the green starts breaking left. Unexpected bills show up. Plans change. Health issues appear. People offer opinions nobody asked for. Progress feels slower than we'd hoped. Before long, we're tempted to pick up the ball and head for the clubhouse.

Bill: Years ago, I decided I wanted to become a professional athlete. There was no magical overnight transformation. It was practice, practice, and more practice. Some days the improvement was obvious. Other days it wasn't. But the secret sauce was consistency. Small efforts, repeated over time, created momentum that eventually produced results. I tackled Terry Bradshaw once. Now I write about it. 😊

Sheri:  Like my experience with song writing. Some days inspiration flows freely. Other days every sentence is work. I discovered persistence is magic ingredient in the recipe . Write a little, edit a little, work on the melody, back to the lyrics. Pretty soon a song comes to life. Got submitted for a grammy nomination several times….pretty cool 😊

Momentum is a remarkable thing.

A golf ball sitting still has no chance of reaching the hole. A golf ball that's rolling has possibilities.

The same is true for us. We don't need perfect conditions. We don't need a perfectly straight path. We don't need everything figured out before we start. We just need to keep moving.

So, if life feels a little bumpy right now, don't worry too much about every twist and turn in the green. Just give the ball another nudge.

You might be a lot closer to the hole than you think.
