We love going to the beach, and a favorite beach hangout of ours is Tybee Island. It’s a great place to find ourselves and get sand in our shorts at the same time. Beautiful sandy beaches, seabirds, sunshine, ocean waves always call to us, urging us to take just the right picture at just the right moment.

On this trip, we barely hit town before we grabbed our cameras and sunscreen and headed for the beach. The weather was perfect, and for several hours we happily took pictures of pretty much anything that caught our eyes.

We shot waves, sunrise, sand dunes, fishing pier, rock jetties, sea gulls, even crabs walking sideways. But we knew we had not yet taken “the picture”—the one that says, “I am the essence of Tybee Island”.

We reluctantly packed up our gear and headed back to our car, when we saw “it” in the distance:  the Tybee Island Light house, of course!

(Bill: A “light bulb moment” for sure.)

Displayed in all its glory, our picture of Tybee Island light house has become one of our all-time favorites. Framed and hung in our sunroom, we look daily at the flowing sea grass lining the walkway to the beach, showcasing this beautiful Tybee Island Light House, a guiding light in the darkened sky since 1732. Wonder what it looks like at night? We’ll be back.
