The Ball's in Your Court

Some mornings feel like a championship match. Other mornings feel like you showed up in your slippers with decaf and a slightly wrinkled game plan. Either a way, it’s morning, and life is waiting for your next shot. The ball’s in your court.
We’ve learned a few things about courts over the years. Tennis courts. Basketball courts. Pickleball courts. (And no, we don’t mean food courts, although choosing a salad over a cinnamon roll can feel like its own Olympic event. We plead the fifth.)
Here’s what every court has in common: When the ball lands on your side, it’s your move.
Opportunity is like that. The ball in your court might be:
· A phone call you’ve been meaning to return.
· A habit you’ve been meaning to change.
· A gratitude you’ve been meaning to express.
· An errand you’ve been putting off.
· A dream you’ve been quietly postponing.
Sheri: I’ve learned that hesitation is louder in my head than it is in real life. The longer I stare at the ball, the heavier it feels. But the second I move — make the call, write the note, take the walk, say the prayer — momentum shows up. Action seems to shrink doubt. And most of the time, it’s not about making a perfect shot. It’s about simply returning the serve and keeping the ball in play.
Bill: I tend to analyze the wind speed, the angle, the possible outcomes first. Then I step into it and take the swing. The key is remembering that no one else can take the swing for you.
Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to grow and become the best we can be.
We don’t get to control every serve that comes our way. Some are fast. Some have spin. Some catch us off guard. But we do get to decide how we respond.
A kind word. A second chance. A fresh start. A brave apology. A small act of generosity. These are everyday volleys that make life better — not just for us, but for everyone sharing the court.
If today feels ordinary, wonderful. That means the game is still on.
Take the swing. The ball’s in your court, and positivity is always a winning play.

Positive Reflections...
“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” — William James
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.” — Louisa May Alcott

Music Corner....
Every generation has had its anthem about stepping up, choosing courage, and taking action. When the ball’s in your court, sometimes you just need a soundtrack to remind you to move your feet. Cue the music. Step up to the line. Game on.
"Eye of the Tiger" – Survivor (1982)...The ultimate “step into the ring” anthem. Focus. Grit. Resilience. Sometimes taking your shot requires channeling your inner Rocky and refusing to stay on the ropes.
"This Is Me" – Keala Settle (2017)...A powerful declaration of ownership and confidence. When the ball is in your court, this song reminds you to stand tall and play it your way.
