Committee Decision

Ah yes, The Committee; where dreams go to be carefully discussed, mildly rewarded, and eventually voted into reality - assuming we don’t run out of coffee, decaf and donuts first.
We’ve served on plenty: budget committees, events committees…even one heroic task force that spent an hour debating whether to play “8 ball” or “9 ball” and whether we had to call the last shot.
But here’s the thing, we actually love them - truly. Why? Because somewhere between the awkward silences and the overly detailed minutes from the last meetup, something special happens – decisions are made, and people connect.
Working on a committee is like playing pool with five people holding one cue stick. Everyone sees a different shot. One wants to sink the 8-ball now, someone else votes for “safety first,” and someone is still asking, “Wait, are we stripes or solids?” Yet eventually, miraculously we agree. The ball drops. We pretend that was the plan all along. Victory!
Sure, progress may come with a side of passive-aggressive emails and an overuse of phrases like “let’s circle back,” but there is still a bit magic. On committees, hidden talents surface. Quiet Peter is discovered to be a grant-writing machine. Janet’s fundraising flyers are so fantastic she could easily win design awards.
Are committees perfect? No. But in a world obsessed with quick wins and solo stars, committees remind us how good it feels to do something together, even if it takes three meetings and a potluck.
So, here’s to the noble committee: slow, quirky, sometimes frustrating, but always proof that a group of ordinary people can do something extraordinary - together.

Positive Reflections...
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller (1920s)
“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” – Henry Ford (early 1900s)
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” – H.E. Luccock (early 1900s)

Music Corner…
If committees had theme songs, they’d be equal parts harmony and head-scratching rhythm. Music, like a good meeting, is all about blending different voices until something unexpectedly beautiful emerges. Here are a few tunes that capture the spirit of leaning on each other, muddling through together, and celebrating the small victories along the way.
“Team” – Lorde (2013) ... Lorde reminds us that the magic happens not with solo stars, but when we’re “on each other’s team.” It’s practically a committee anthem—quirky, a little messy, but stronger because everyone’s in it together.
“Come Together” – The Beatles (1969) ... Sure, Lennon’s lyrics are delightfully odd, but the title says it all. Committees may be full of strange characters with different ideas, but when we come together, something greater than the sum of the parts emerges.
“Stronger Together” – Jessica Sanchez & Artists (2016) ... This anthem leans into the truth every committee eventually learns: the road may be bumpy, the debates may be long, but in the end, we really are stronger when we pull in the same direction.
