Fixin' to Bloom

There are times when nothing obvious is happening. No color. No applause. No proof you can point to and say, See? That’s awesome! Just still water and wide leaves doing their quiet work. If you didn’t know better, you might think the pond was asleep. But surprise, folks, these lilies are fixin’ to bloom.
Beneath the surface, everything necessary is already in motion.
This is the gift of knowing and trusting. Not the kind that paces the floor or checks the clock every five minutes or refreshes the page hoping for different news. But believing in the process, enough to remain rooted and stay the course.
While nothing flashy is happening above the waterline, roots are deepening below it. Strength is gathering. Systems are aligning. Life is preparing itself. And becoming always precedes blooming.
Sheri: It’s easy to underestimate these moments because they don’t come with proof - no ribbon-cutting for endurance or standing ovation for patience.
Bill: I’ve photographed enough flowers to know that every flower you’ve ever admired spent a long stretch of time looking like absolutely nothing special.
Blooming isn’t late. It’s precise. Some days really are about the blooms. You know, those celebration days, harvest days, “look what happened” days. We need those. They remind us why we stayed.
But other days are about becoming the kind of place where flowers can grow. Days of resisting the urge to dig everything up just to check if it’s really growing.
Those days matter just as much.
If today feels still and quiet like nothing is happening, take heart. This might be the moment where everything important is happening just out of sight. You know, the calm water, the deep roots...as we call it, just fixin’ to bloom.
This is one of those days.

Positive Reflections...
“And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been.”— Rainer Maria Rilke
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”— Lao Tzu
“The world is but a canvas to our imagination.”— Henry David Thoreau

Music Corner....
These songs are companions for the in-between season, the walks without answers, the mornings that feel unfinished, the trust that something good is forming even when you can’t see it yet...a reminder that growth is still happening just below the surface.
Be Still – The Killers (2008) … This is a quiet benediction disguised as a song. It speaks to the courage it takes to stay where you are, to trust that what’s growing inside you doesn’t need to rush or prove itself yet.
This Is Me Trying – Taylor Swift (2020) … A modern hymn for unseen effort. It honors the invisible work, the staying afloat, the trying that doesn’t always look like progress but absolutely is.
Scarborough Fair – Simon & Garfunkel (1966) … An old melody carried by patience and restraint. The song moves slowly, almost circularly, like a ritual of waiting—asking for impossible things while trusting that love, in time, will find its way.
