Ever notice the root of the word vacation is vacate? Yep, it literally means, “Get your butt outa’ there!” Pack up, step out, and give your daily grind the slip. Your office chair won’t miss you, and trust me, your brain could use the break.
Bill: We took this picture of “the pole dancers” in Arizona on Route 66....a couple of years ago, but the memories are still fresh.. Notice our “stone stacking land art” in the lower right foreground - we practiced ahead of time using coffee creamers at IHop (our right brains at work).
Sheri: Vacating isn’t just about palm trees and umbrella drinks (though those might help). It’s about clearing the cobwebs and letting your mind breathe. When you leave your usual four walls, you make space for fresh thoughts to move in. New sights, new sounds, new smells. Suddenly your imagination is on a field trip.
And here’s the bonus: when you recharge, the people around you win too. Nobody likes a cranky, overcooked version of you. Step away, explore something outside your box, and you’ll come back funnier, lighter, and maybe even with a story worth retelling.
Imagine how thrilled your friends will be when you swap out complaints about automatic phone messages for tales of eating street tacos at midnight in a town you can’t pronounce.
So, go find some new digs. Wander, wonder, and laugh at yourself along the way. It doesn’t have to be far or fancy - sometimes just a different zip code will do the trick. The point is to empty out the stale and fill up on the fresh.
