Nature has been perfecting the art of adaptation long before we ever caught on. Chameleons shift their colors like quick-change artists, squirrels turn into tiny stockbrokers stashing food for winter, and octopuses disappear in plain sight with their magic camouflage. Adaption is positivity in action, written right into creation itself.
Our photograph depicts an adaptation needed for actual survival. Hopping off a very large cruise ship onto a very petit lifeboat is an adaptation we hope you never have to attempt! Fortunately, life affords us many other less dramatic opportunities to display our skills at adapting and thriving.
Bill: Just think back to your first smartphone. You probably poked at it like it was a suspicious sandwich. Now you maneuver around it like a pro. You check the weather and news, listen to podcasts, scan emails, answer texts, add Dr. appointments and meetups with friends to your calendar. You can’t imagine life without it That’s adaptation and positivity in action - and a more efficient you.
Sheri: This reminds me of the true story behind my original song, “Ballad of Gerald and Joe.” We met Gerald one day who was the owner of a towing company. He told us that when he was first starting out, he went shopping for a truck. He found one, but it had freshly painted graphics on the side: “Call Joe for a Tow.” Gerald didn’t have the money to strip the truck and repaint it, so instead, he bought the truck and decided to start calling himself “Joe.” His business thrived, and he bought several more trucks over the years, all sporting the signage “Call Joe for a Tow.” Even to his family, he responds to both Gerald and Joe. This was man who knew the art of adapting! We highlighted our song in this week's Music Corner below.
Truth is that life rarely plays out exactly as we storyboard it. Frequent curve balls sneak in, like job shifts, traffic jams, and surprise guests who eat the last slice of cake. The question is how gracefully we swing at them when they do (curve balls - not the guests).
Life will always toss a few lemons. So today, let’s just figure out if we need lemonade, lemon pie, or a zesty lemon guitar polish. We call that adapting with a twist of positivity!
