Round and Round We Go
If there's one thing life enjoys, it's making circles. Trends return. Ideas resurface. Advice we once ignored suddenly makes perfect sense. And just when we think we've moved on from something, it finds its way back into our lives. Round and round we go.
Take fashion. At some point, most of us have cleaned out a closet and proudly donated clothes we were absolutely certain would never be worn by another human being again. Not only are they back, but they’re also trendy. Suddenly, the same styles we once laughed at are displayed in store windows with price tags that make us question our life choices.
Sheri: Like my purple striped bell bottoms 😊. I practically lived in them from 18-25 and then I moved on and so did fashion. Last year I saw a pair exactly like them at the mall.
Bill: Which proves our point: If we’d just kept everything in the attic, we'd either be fashionable or rich by now.
The same thing happens with advice. When we're young, we're convinced our parents could not possibly understand modern life. Then one day, we hear ourselves repeating their exact words - not similar words, the exact words. It's a little unsettling the first time it happens. Somewhere along the way, the lessons we resisted made a full lap around the track and showed up again wearing a nametag that said "wisdom."
Sheri: The first time I caught myself repeating one of my parents’ favorite sayings, I actually stopped mid-sentence. I spent years rolling my eyes at those words, and here they were coming right out of my own mouth.
Bill: Which proves our point: If we'd just kept everything in the attic, we'd either be fashionable or rich by now. (didn’t we say that before? 😊)
Life gives us second looks. Ideas come back. Opportunities return. Old friendships reconnect. Lessons finally make sense. And every now and then, we discover that something we thought had passed us by was simply taking the scenic route.
So, the next time an old song, old memory, old friend, or old piece of advice unexpectedly reappears, don't be surprised. Life has always enjoyed making circles…
Round and round we go.
