All living things move and grow - animal, vegetable, and yes, even mineral if you give it enough time and patience. Winter is officially behind us, and “snow” is once again just a distant four-letter word we don’t need to use in polite conversation. Springtime has sprung, stretched, and yawned its way onto the calendar, inviting us all to do what nature does best: renew, repurpose, and refresh.

Spring is generous with encouragement, especially if you like words that start with RE. It practically hums with them. RE-tune. RE-turn. RE-plenish. RE-place. And of course, the headliners: RE-new, RE-purpose and RE-fresh. These little syllables are like verbal caffeine - short, energizing, and oddly motivating.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it (and no disguises or secret handshakes are required), is to pick just one thing to RE-polish or RE-perfect.

Sheri: Hm, maybe I can RE-fresh my flower garden, and coax my spring bulbs to flourish. Or I can RE-organize our closet and  computer files - both of which are harboring relics from at least three decades!.

Bill: So, I could RE-new a friendship – pretty sure I owe a couple of folks a phone call. And I definitely need to RE-view my walking mileage…I would like to discover that my sneakers have been doing more work than I think they have.

You might want to Re-read a few good books or blogs (we happen to know some 😊), RE-tune your guitar, or RE-turn every compliment you receive. RE-hang and RE-stock the bird feeder. And then be sure and RE-plenish the pantry and wet bar for the times you RE-new friendships face-to-face.

Sheri: I do like spring - it feels like permission to begin again, even if nothing was technically wrong in the first place.

Bill: Spring is a color-rich environment. As a photojournalist and wordsmith, I’m ready to get out there and snatch scenic, succulent pixels and share snappy stories full of alliteration and showfullness.

Spring doesn’t demand perfection. It simply suggests progress, shines a little brighter, feels a little lighter, and adds a little more “RE” into your day.   And that, folks, is a season worth stepping into.

“April hath put a spirit of youth in everything.” — Shakespeare

“Sweet spring, full of sweet days and roses.” — George Herbert

“Blossom by blossom the spring begins.” — Swinburne

Music Corner....

Long before playlists and earbuds, people marked the season’s arrival with melody — songs about thawing ground, restless hearts, and that unmistakable feeling that something new is ready to begin. These selections span styles and decades, but they share a common thread: the moment when winter loosens its grip and possibility stretches, yawns, and steps forward.

Consider them musical reminders that renewal doesn’t have to be loud — it just has to be felt.

April Come She Will” – Simon & Garfunkel … Few songs capture spring’s quiet entrance better than this one. Told through the calendar months, it mirrors the season itself — gentle, fleeting, and full of promise. Like spring, it reminds us that change doesn’t always announce itself loudly; sometimes it simply arrives and asks us to pay attention.

“It Might as Well Be Spring” – Rodgers & Hammerstein … This song perfectly describes that restless, can’t-quite-put-your-finger-on-it feeling that shows up when spring is near. It’s the soundtrack to daydreaming, reorganizing, and wondering what might come next — a musical nudge toward renewal before we even realize we’re ready.

“Spring Fever” – Elvis Presley … And then there’s the fun part. “Spring Fever” celebrates the lighter, livelier side of the season — when energy returns, spirits lift, and sitting still feels overrated. It’s spring with a grin, reminding us that refreshing our lives can (and probably should) include a little joy and a lot of movement.
