“When you want to fly, open your wings”

Bill: This motivational quote just swooped in on me while on assignment, photo- stalking wildlife at the Ocean City Boardwalk.

I was busy tracking a low flying seagull who incessantly cruised the Boardwalk for delicacies. Well, maybe both of us were looking for treats. I took “Jonathan’s” picture during his final fly by salute (nod to Jonathan Livingston Seagull).

Back home at my computer, Jonathan’s open wings appeared to be sailing among the closed sails anchored in the background. That imagery spurred my creative writing juices and voila, I had a light bulb moment: Open wings fly, closed sails go nowhere--a story in a photographic, metaphoric juxtaposition. “When you want to fly, open your wings.”

Sheri:  This is a favorite image of mine, on display in our foyer. And while the motivational caption is not on our printed version, the picture still tells the story.

So, what about it? “If you want to fly open your wings.”  Remember, few decisions are made with perfect information. Taking action often calls for a leap of faith. Sooner or later you just need to open your wings and take off!
