Around the Bend

Your GPS is on, and you’re moving forward. The road curves ahead, and you can’t quite see what’s coming next. But it’s nice out, the sunlight filters through trees, and you feel pretty darn good. Still, that bend in the road holds a question mark. Do you recheck your GPS or keep moving, trusting your internal compass?
Sheri: Curving roads make me hesitate, since visually you really can’t tell what’s ahead of you. But with GPS leading the way these days (we named our GPS “Helga”), it usually works out. I have learned that just because I am only being fed the next couple of turns doesn’t mean we’re not on track for our destination.
Bill: A few years ago when GPS was just getting its bearings, and not always accurately updated, we were driving through rural Georgia when Helga “burped” and routed us onto a country dirt road for several miles. She eventually dumped us out in the parking lot of a rural school…this was at least five miles off course. And this is the spot where I usually tell the story about the 3-legged chicken we encountered. Ask me and I’ll tell you. 😊
So, if you’ve set your internal GPS but the road is curving off unexpectedly into the unknown, that doesn’t mean you're totally lost. We’ve heard that the first step to knowledge is often confusion.
The view will open when it’s time. Happy journey - you are closer than you think!
“Life is a journey, not a destination.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
“The best way out is always through.” Robert Frost

Positive Reflections...
Sheri: When I’m driving, I always like to know at least 3 steps ahead, especially when in high trafficked areas when I don’t know the route. I can get pretty snarky until I finally arrive at our destination, even though Helga seems pretty confident. How about I just say that I “positively” need to improve in this area! 😊
Bill: I’m more laid back about driving and directions. In fact, Sheri can attest to the fact that my typical answer for us missing a turn is, “No worries. The earth is round - we’ll get there eventually.”

Music Corner…
Every journey needs a little background music - something to remind you to keep moving, keep trusting, and keep your heart open to what is just around the bend.
“Up Around the Bend” – Creedence Clearwater Revival (1970)A high-energy, feel-good song that invites you to look forward with confidence—there’s something waiting just up around the bend
“I Can See Clearly Now” – Johnny Nash (1972)Uplifting and timeless—perfect for that feeling when you come around the bend and the fog finally lifts.
“Bless the Broken Road” – Rascal Flatts (2004)A reflective reminder that twists and turns can still lead to meaningful, even beautiful destinations.
What songs would you have selected?
