When someone falls overboard, throwing them a lifesaver might be a handy idea. You’ll find these handy floatation devices hung on the deck rail for immediate rescue and emergency use. But what if you’re not on a ship? What if you find yourself up the creek without a lifesaver or a paddle? What then?

Handy Stuff includes but not limited to people, places, things, and ideas that are convenient, accessible, useful, positive, valuable, worthwhile, effective, helpful, informative, expedient, or thoughtful. But, In our case, sometimes playful and amusing. They should not obfuscate and should be mostly to the point.

Sheri:  We have a friend who is a terrific handy Man with many projects going at one time. His handy idea is to use the right tool for the right job. It’s amazing how many items become his tools…he’s much more than a duct tape and WD 40 expert. So, we’ll take his word.

Bill: To this day, I remember back in my early childhood, my father told me to keep a handy cake of soap in my pocket when I swam in the ocean, then if I got caught out too far, I could grab the cake of soap and wash myself ashore.

Sheri: And another close friend of ours sees himself as “an endless store of useless information.” He really is quite clever, and definitely our favorite guy to have on hand for some very interesting and lively conversations.

Bill: I’ve heard that it’s handy to “keep the main thing the main thing.” Most helpful when on a committee or checking things off your urgent honey-do list.

So next time you’re out and about, stay alert. Look around, listen closely, and notice the little things that make life easier or more interesting. You might just stumble across a clever bit of “handy stuff” worth remembering and sharing!
