Colors Are the Smiles of Nature

Then we saw it: a bush so vibrantly pink it looked like it won a bet with a flamingo.
Sheri: I took this shot at the Botanical Gardens. These friend-seeking leaves were smiling at me, wanting my attention and I didn’t refuse their call – I did my best to capture the heart of our encounter.
Bill: Something about that neon shrub and Sheri’s reaction to it that cracked my cynical shell. Suddenly I noticed a world around me of animated bluebirds who looked like they were auditioning for a Disney film, and trees shaking like they were dancing to their own Spotify playlist. Nature wasn’t boring - it was dramatic, eccentric, and flamboyant...worthy of at least a look, a smile or smirk.
Works with people to people too: Just flash a smile and in one instant, you can go from separate to seen. Awareness blooms and connection stirs. One smiley curve of kindness can turn ordinary moments into meaningful ones.
Try smiling at someone and watch something shift: a barrier softens a spark ignites. It’s a quiet welcoming gesture saying “I see you.” That simple gesture awakens a shared moment requiring no words, just warmth. Your smile opens the door to being known, even if briefly getting attention.
A smile invites curiosity, softens assumptions, and says, Hey, I recognize something good in you. It’s a handshake without hands, a spark without friction. In that moment, we’re not just passing by, but we’re connecting, even if only for a heartbeat.
So, what’s the takeaway from a flamboyant plant with vibrant, smiling leaves? Simple: color and kindness are everywhere. If we just pause long enough to notice, nature’s smiles are easy to spot. And even better, your own smile might just be the spark someone else needs today. So go on—flash a grin, soak in the colors, and let a little bit of nature’s joy spill out into the world around you. You never know whose day you might brighten.
Positively speaking, Sheri & Bill
