“The earth laughs in flowers” (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Waking to the start of a glorious April Spring morning, we looked out the window and of course our first thought was of our warm close personal friend Ralph Waldo Emerson.

With Easter behind us, we felt confident temperatures would no longer dip into the 30’s, so we headed out to purchase some flowering plants for the yard. We first checked all four of our thumbs. Unable to find any green ones, we knew we had to depend on Mother Nature’s forgiving nature, that she would know how much we love and appreciate her flowers!

Sheri: The blossoming of flowers triggers the sense that something special is going to happen--and puts a smile on our faces from natural dopamine! Mix in a dash of serotonin (happiness hormone), and you have a recipe for laughter.

Bill: Flowers also make good icebreakers and housewarming gifts.  Buying, gifting, and admiring blooms stimulate best wishes and good feeling. She loves me; she loves me not. Hmmm—maybe I should buy Sheri a few more flower bouquets this year.. hmm

As spring unfolds and Mother Nature works her magic, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the laughter of the earth in full bloom. Whether you’re planting a garden, picking out a bouquet for a loved one, or just pausing to admire the neighbor’s tulips (without secretly hoping they don’t notice), flowers have a way of making life brighter.

So, grab your watering can, your favorite floral-patterned shirt, and let the season inspire you to spread a little joy. After all, when the earth laughs in flowers, why not laugh along with it?

Positively Speaking, “Sheri & Bill...Story Tellers in Word, Image and Song.”
